Frequently Asked Questions:
- What to wear for class? Wear comfortable workout clothing and wrestling, track, tennis or cross training shoes.
- What to bring? An open mind, bottle of water, and sense of humor.
- Releases? A risk waiver/permission form signed by a parent or legal guardian is required for participants under the age of 18. All clients will be asked to sign a waiver form. The waiver explains that use of force is an individual decision, and that some physical contact is a part of self-defense/use of force training.
- What to expect? Classes are interactive, situational and involve presentation and question/answer in an open, relaxed environment. Skills and drills are demonstrated by an instructor. Skill sets and drills are then practiced in pairs or small groups with the guidance and oversight of the instructor. Seminars and extended class series may involve side shows and video materials.
- Is this a workout? A portion of class is active. While physical fitness helps, it is not a requirement. Skills can be adapted.
- What if I am opposed to using force? Avoidance and management strategies are vital for people who are opposed to using force, timid, or not in shape to fight back or unable or unwilling to practice use of force skills.
- What ages can attend? Materials are appropriate for ages 14 and older. Special seminars can be held for ages 11 to 14, upon request.
